LET'S
DISCUSS CRACKS
Cracks in concrete can be removed
only by properly replacing the concrete. Even
then it could still improperly crack.
Veeing or widening out the crack and filling
it with concrete putty will work only until the
weather changes. When the concrete expands or
contracts, the putty will most likely pop out,
leaving a wider crack and a mess.
The best way to deal with cracks in the concrete
is to be FLEXIBLE.
Flexible materials stretch and compress. If
dirt, debris and water are kept out of the crack,
the crack is less likely to get wider. Therefore,
we can fill moving cracks with concrete gray
flexible polyurethane caulking. Some moisture
cure polyurethane caulking compounds do not require
absolutely dry concrete, so caulking can be done
while the slab is drying.
Sakcrete® also works
well in nonmoving or slightly moving cracks
and screw holes. It has
a sand texture, is concrete color, cures fast,
has some flexibility and is extremely easy to
finish.
In summary, we can fill and caulk the cracks;
however it's possible that the cracks will reappear.
Having said all that
about repairing cracks, our experience has
been that it is not always
beneficial to repair flaws in the concrete. Rather,
we have had greater success when disguising or
hiding the crack in the engraving pattern. Many
concrete flaws end up looking like normal imperfections
in the "brick" surface.
