ENGRAVING
OPERATIONS
It takes between 1 and 2 days to engrave (cut)
an average sized driveway or patio. A typical
depth of cut will range from 1/16 inch to
1/8 inch deep. Small holes will be drilled into the concrete
to mount the various tracking systems. After
completion of the cutting, these holes will be
filled and touched up with concrete stain. The
tracking systems help to ensure a 99.9955% accuracy
rate.
We give our machines and ourselves an over-cutting
allowance of 24 linear inches per 1000 square
feet of brick pattern surface. Over-cutting includes
nicks and miscellaneous errant cuts. While 24
inches may seem like a lot, it reflects a 99.9955%
accuracy rate.
All under cuts are finished manually. Nicks
and over-cuts are touched up with concrete stain.
The Final Touch
A clear acrylic protective coat is sprayed or
rolled on the completed concrete pattern. The
sealer provides a finish that will make the
project more attractive and help the colors
stay brighter and last longer,
Curing time, for light
foot traffic on a solvent based clear coat,
is generally 4 hours or less—for
car traffic, it is generally 72 hours. As with
all other components of this process, the time
it takes for the sealer to dry is driven by the
temperature and humidity.
